Turn back time with this DIY clove collagen toner

Topical products cannot literally “turn back time,” and collagen applied to the skin does not penetrate deeply enough to boost your own collagen production.
However, you can make a toner that is soothing, antioxidant-rich, and gently brightening.

I’ll give you a version that avoids irritation and keeps clove levels safe (pure clove oil can burn skin).

⭐ DIY Clove + Collagen-Inspired Toner (Safe, Gentle Version)

✅ What this toner can do

  • Provide antioxidants (from clove + green tea)

  • Hydrate skin

  • Support the skin barrier

  • Give a firmer “feel” due to film-forming ingredients

⚠️ Avoid putting clove oil directly on skin undiluted — it’s extremely potent.

🍃 Ingredients (safe-for-skin ratios)

Base

  • ½ cup cooled green tea (antioxidant + soothing)

  • ¼ cup aloe vera juice (hydrating, calming)

Collagen element (optional & safe)

  • 1 teaspoon hydrolyzed collagen powder or

  • 1 teaspoon vegan collagen peptides (these don’t increase collagen but hydrate & firm temporarily)

Clove component (safe dilution)

  • 1–2 whole cloves, simmered lightly in water and strained
    OR

  • 1 drop clove essential oil in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil (jojoba or almond), then use ½ teaspoon of that dilution in the toner

Preservation (recommended)

  • 1 teaspoon witch hazel (gentle, helps preservation)

  • Store in the refrigerator and use within 7 days.

🧪 How to Make It

  1. Boil water, steep green tea, and let it cool completely.

  2. In a separate cup, simmer 1–2 cloves in a few tablespoons of water for 5 minutes, then strain.

  3. Mix green tea + aloe juice in a clean glass container.

  4. Add collagen powder and stir until fully dissolved.

  5. Add only the strained clove water OR the very diluted clove oil blend.

  6. Add witch hazel.

  7. Shake gently and refrigerate.

✨ How to Use It

  • After cleansing, apply with a cotton pad or pat onto skin with hands.

  • Use 1× daily at first.

  • Follow with moisturizer.

❗ Safety Notes

  • Do a patch test (clove can irritate sensitive skin).

  • Do not use on broken, raw, or inflamed skin.

  • Avoid pure clove essential oil on skin.

  • If redness or burning occurs, rinse and discontinue.
